The Project
The Kathleen Kilgour Centre, located at Tauranga Hospital, providing radiation treatments. Wingate + Farquhar Architects designed this stunning three-level project, and Allco Applicators Bay Protective Coatings carried out the waterproofing in collaboration with Fletcher Construction.
PROJECT REQUIREMENT
The building has a slab-on-grade floor with a bunker at 4.5 m deep and a lift pit. Sidewalls were built with precast panels system. All-round waterproofing was required at the slab foundations, bunker and lift pit. The sensitive nature of the medical equipment required a high level of waterproofing meant Allco’s Volclay System was the preferred option for the project.
ALLCO SOLUTION
Voltex tanking at the bunker and lift pit provided an all-round waterproofing to ensure complete water-tightness. The client has chosen Voltex for the precast walls as well, and this was done by pre-installation of the Voltex at the casting yard before transporting it to the site for on-site wall erection. The total wrapping of detailing of Voltex at slab/wall joints, pile cap protrusions and pipe penetrations were critical to ensuring long term success of keeping the environment dry for the medical facilities.
