From Heritage Church to Architecturally Designed Early Learning Centre
The winner of ‘Best Heritage Building’ in the 2019 Property Industry Awards.
When Adrian Rowan, from 505 Construction, decided transitioning a heritage church to incorporate an architecturally designed early learning centre he sought out Allco Waterproofing for expertise and to deliver crucial waterproofing infrastructure the project needed.
The Campbells Bay Early Learning Centre presented with a raft of challenges — not the least being how best to shape the historic site in order to create a myriad of exceptional play areas, while also providing sufficient off-street parking with minimal visual impact.
Allco assisted Collingridge and Smith Architects in the design and supplied two JM TPO roofs; one extending over the semi-circular Green Roofing system under which cars would be parked and the second which children would play in a variety of spaces including sandpits, green spaces and a water-feature.
The product was chosen due to its ability to withstand puncture and its ease of application on dynamic sites like that at Campbells Bay.
Allco JM TPO is engineered to carry outstanding ozone resistance, superior tear strength and resistance to uplifting. While its strengths are a key feature, it is also easy to apply due to the flexibility through its scrim orientation. The ability to withstand extreme temperatures made it the ideal waterproofing material for the Campbells Bay Early Learning Centre project.
Another key advantage is the extremely cost-efficient construction process, which is much less labour intensive than standard waterproofing barrier systems. It took the Allco team just a couple of weeks to install the main green roof and the whole project went extremely well.
Judged as one of the best at this year’s Property Council of New Zealand Property Industry Awards, the early learning centre is an outstanding example of what can be achieved when a developer makes the right call and engages a company that has the passion and the experience to deliver top-end waterproofing solutions in a way that enhances and adds value to the overall appearance of the site.
Daniel Szczepanski, National Sales Manager at Allco describes the company as an industry leader, offering its clients high-level consultative services and a range of outstanding products backed by real science and tested to the highest standards.
“We’re dealing with critical elements within a build and the products and experience we offer across tanking, roofing/decking/podium systems and seismic jointing are second to none,” he says.
He adds that the philosophy underpinning how the company approaches each project it gets involved with is fundamental to its success.
“We believe that great business is a business that is conducted in an honest manner. The products we use are of the highest possible proven quality. We have a great team on board with a massive collective depth of knowledge and a commitment to deliver the best outcome on each and every project we undertake. Every day we work with architects who are frustrated with the amount of time it takes to accurately design and detail waterproofing. Our team loves to get involved from the beginning to remove the technical difficulty and follow the project through to completion. This way we can help our clients mitigate risk and save time.”
