The Project 

The new NZ Blood Donor Centre has been purpose-built to cater to the growing demands and needs of the Waikato region. Based in the heart of Hamilton, the new building offers 24 donor beds, 30 underground parking spaces and is also the base of the NZ Blood national office.

A key consideration NZ Blood and Stark Properties for this project was sustainability and to ensure a reduced carbon footprint for this 2000sqm building.

PROJECT REQUIREMENT 

Over 5,000 cubic metres of soil were excavated to make room for the 2-level basement parking, requiring extensive waterproofing to ensure the below ground structure was protected against water ingress. The key considerations when choosing the waterproofing for the project included high-quality performance, the ability to cope with major weather events and the speed of which the membrane would be installed due to the tight deadlines of the project.

ALLCO SOLUTION

Our Volclay range was chosen due to the speed and efficiency of installation in any weather, minimising the risk of delays. As predicted, weather related events presented some challenges during the construction of the basement however one of the key advantages of Voltex is that it can be installed during both wet and dry conditions, unlike other membranes.

Voltex was used on the walls, footings, and under slab for a fully encapsulated basement, and Swelltite was applied on the podiums. Voltex was applied to a shotcrete surface forming a mechanical bond with the concrete making it an ideal solution for the basement.
